S&P CNX Nifty for 1 Jan 2013.

Happy new year to all the followers of our blog! May this year be the harbinger of prosperity, peace and vibrant health.

The market ended 2012 on a silent note, consolidating with a bullish undertone without touching resistances or support.
The tipping point for the day is at 5908 which also happens to be the immediate resistance. If this resistance is conquered then the next resistances are at 5918, 5930 and 5940.
The immediate support is at 5885 and 5875.
Our outlook for today is that the market may consolidate a little more if it does not go north. The bullish structure is intact and any weakness may be utilized to go long.

Sunday, December 30, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 31 December 2012

The tipping point for the last trading day of 2012 is at 5903 and if the benchmark index holds above this level then it will find resistance at 5923, 5945 and 5960.
On the flip side if it slips below 5903, then a bought of selling pressure may take it down to 5884, 5866 and 5850.
Our outlook for the day is that the market will consolidate with a bullish undertone.

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 27 December 2012

As indicated yesterday, the market did surprise with an upmove in the wake of settlement of the current series which is today. The tipping point for today is at 5894 and the immediate supports are at 5897, 5888 and 5870.
Our outlook for today is that the market can be safely said to be in a consolidating mode as long as it stands above 5870. The undertone is bullish with immediate resistances at 5914, 5930 5952. Weakness may be utilized to go long for short term trades.

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 26 December 2012

The tipping point for today is at 5857 and unless the benchmark index trades above this threshold level with good volumes, the overall market will remain weak with immediate supports at 5824 and 5805. All the technical indicators are suggesting weakness, but tomorrow being the settlement day, market can throw surprise in which case the resistance is at 5865, 5879 and 5902.
Our outlook for today is continued weakness which may be utilized to go long on index and key stocks. However a breach of 5805 level conclusively will see fresh shorts being built.

Sunday, December 23, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 24 December 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5859 which is much below the closing point of Friday. The market looks weak in the face of the settlement of December series which is on 27th. If the support of 5806 holds then the bull run can be presumed to be intact but for the bull run to resume and go roaring once again the benchmark index must conquer 5904. The immediate resistances are at 5865 and 5879.
However on the flip side, the market will find support at 5830 and 5812.

Weekend Verses

Morning Poem

Every morning
the world
is created.
Under the orange

sticks of the sun
the heaped
ashes of the night
turn into leaves again

and fasten themselves to the high branches ---
and the ponds appear
like black cloth
on which are painted islands

of summer lilies.
If it is your nature
to be happy
you will swim away along the soft trails

for hours, your imagination
alighting everywhere.
And if your spirit
carries within it

the thorn
that is heavier than lead ---
if it's all you can do
to keep on trudging ---

there is still
somewhere deep within you
a beast shouting that the earth
is exactly what it wanted ---

each pond with its blazing lilies
is a prayer heard and answered
lavishly,
every morning,

whether or not
you have ever dared to be happy,
whether or not
you have ever dared to pray.

Hand made gold jewellery from Kumaon, India

Gold necklace with ear danglers.

S&P CNX Nifty for 18 December 2012

The market did manage to hold above our support on closing basis; it closed at 5857.9 a shade above the support indicated in yesterday's post and so it can be conclusively said that the bulls haven't given up yet. The tipping point for the day is at 5865 and if Nifty sticks its head above this mark then it must conquer the resistance 5873 to resume upward journey.
On the flip side the immediate support is at 5843 and the crucial support is at 5804.
Our outlook for the day is that there might be a little more consolidation and/or weakness or sideways movement before selling pressure patters  out.

Talaash 2012 movie review

Directed by Reema Kagti, Talaash is a suspense thriller starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji. Aamir Khan plays the role of a police officer investigating the mysterious death of a film star while struggling hard with his wife played by Rani Mukerji to cope up with the loss of their only child. The script is perfect confirming to the versatility of the story writer Zoya Akhtar with Reema Kagti and dialogue writer Farhan Akhtar with Anurag Kashyap. The movie has some very emotionally appealing scenes and is gripping as it moves. The climax is however disappointing and the movie falters towards the end. Nevertheless, the movie does score on a lot of points if one can just ignore the end. It is engaging.
On a scale of 10 the movie is a clear 8.

Movie Review - Hope Springs 2012.

Hope Springs

Hope springs is directed by David Frankel starring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. The movie revolves around the married life of the two who act as husband and wife married for 31 years as they seek counseling of Steve Carell  playing as therapist. The movie is emotionally engaging comedy drama which is brilliantly directed, acted as well as edited. It really touches some of the very finer points in lives of most of the married people.
In a scale of 10, I give it 8.5. It is a must watch !!

S&P CNX Nifty for 17 December 2012.

After cracking up down to 5839, the nifty did manage a comeback on account of shorts being covered on Friday. The tipping point for the day is at 5868 and if Nifty manages to trade above this point then the immediate resistance is at 5882, 5888 and 5917. On the flip side if Nifty slips below the tipping point then the immediate support is at 5857 and then at 5823 and 5805.
Our outlook for today is that the charts suggest a little more weakness and consolidation before resumption of upward trend. The overall bullish structure is very much in place.

Thursday, December 13, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 14 December 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5866 and if Nifty trades above this mark in the opening trades then the immediate resistance is at 5889. However, the charts indicate a little more down slide with immediate support at 5823 and 5806.

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

S7P CNX Nifty for 13 December 2012.

The tipping point for today is at 5895 which is a little above yesterday's closing and Nifty will have to trade above this level to resume it's upward journey with 5927 as the immediate resistance and then at 5947 and 5969.
On the flip side, if it fails to stick its head above the 5895 mark then the immediate support is at 5866 and then 5805.
The outlook for today is that there may be a breakout in either direction.

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 12 December 2012.

As predicted in our post yesterday, the Nifty did find support at 5865 from where it bounced back. The tipping point for Nifty is now at 5909 and Nifty will have to trade above this mark for it to resume it's upwards path. The immediate resistance is at 5927.
On the flip side the immediate support is at 5891, 5881 and then at 5866.
Our outlook for the day is that the Nifty will remain weak in the opening moves and if it fails to find the support at 5866 conclusively then it must go further down to 5823. However if sideways movement persists for most part then it may start moving northwards again. However as of now the bullish trend is very much in place.

Sunday, December 9, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 10 December 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5915 and to resume the bullish upsurge, the Nifty must trade above this point. Otherwise, the immediate support is at 5880 and then at 5865.
In case of an up move, the immediate resistance is at 5928 and then at 5941.
Our outlook for the day is that the market may consolidate further sideways with a bullish bias.

Thursday, December 6, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 7 December 2012.

The market behaved in the expected lines of yesterday's post and it did go down before an upsurge.
The tipping point for today is at 5904 which is much below yesterday's closing point. The immediate support for Nifty is at 5918 and 5890.
The Nifty seems all set for further scaling new 52 week highs with resistance at 5970 and 6005.

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 6 December 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5902 and Nifty will have to trade above this point consistently for the bullish trend to continue in which case the immediate resistance will be met at 5916 and then at 5929 and 5942.
On the flip side the immediate support is at 5888 and 5841.
Our outlook for today is a weakish start with consolidation and upsurge later on.

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 5 December 2012.

As expected, the Nifty did find resistance at 5894.95 a tad short of our predicted point.
The tipping point for today is at 5881 and the immediate support is at 5871. However, if Nifty manages to stay above the 5881 mark conclusively then it is headed for a new 52 week high with immediate resistances at 5905, 5919 and 5940.
Our outlook for today is continued up move with all out buying but with falling volumes.

Monday, December 3, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 4 December 2012.

As indicated in our post yesterday, the resistance of 5900 did hold as the market returned from 5899.15.
The tipping point for today is at 5875 and the Nifty will have to trade above this point consistently to resume the upward journey. 5884 is the immediate resistance above which Nifty will see resistances at 5896, 5920 and 5941.
On the flip side, if it trades below the tipping point of 5875, then it will find support at 5862 failing which it will slip down to 5849 and 5827.
Our outlook for today is that the bullish structure is well in place and charts suggest continued optimism.

Sunday, December 2, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 3 December 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5864 and if the Nifty manages to stick it's head above this point then the bullish rampage will continue with immediate resistance at 5901, 5928 and 5958.
However, if it trades below 5664, then a bout of sideways consolidation may be seen with immediate support at 5841 and 5816.
Our outlook for today is of continued optimism albeit with sideways consolidation before a new intermediate 52 week high is made.

Weekend Verses.

                    Autumn Rain

There's a sad, sad voice in the autumn rain,
Mournful rain;
As it beateth slowly against the pane,
Window pane.
And the wind sings by with a conscious breath,
And seems like a messenger whispering death,
As the flowers bend with a drooping eye--
Bend and die.

What gives such a sadness unto the rain?
Autumn rain;
For it sobs like a human heart in pain,
A heart in pain;
Does it know its drops with a chilly tread
Lie cold on the beauty that now is dead?
Does it know the beautiful must decay?
Passing away.

Sure the summer rain had a merry tone,
A laughing tone;
Its patter made melody all its own,
Yes, all its own;
The flowers looked up when it came from the skies,
And the drops for mischief fell right in their eyes,
And sparkled in brightness like mimic tears,
Joyful tears.

Then tell me, why is it this autumn rain,
Mournful rain,
Chills my very heart as it sweeps the pane?
Dripping pane.
Is it that it sighs o'er a summer fled,
O'er the graves where more than flowers lie dead;
Is it that memory lendeth a strain
To the sobbing rain?

O where are the hopes of the bright spring tide?
Sweet spring tide.
With the summer blossoms they too have died,
Yes, they have died.
They have fled away; will their bloom come back?
Will they bless again as I tread life's track?
Or, by and by on some other shore
Bloom evermore?

Sob on,--it is well,--O passionate rain;
'T is well, O rain,
Tho' the flowers now faded may bloom again,
Will bloom again;
Some things that have died with the summer's light,
Some things that have fled with the summer's flight,
Will never, no, never, come back again,
Sob on, O rain!

S&P CNX Nifty for 30 November 2012.

The Nifty overcame both the resistances of yesterday in a bullish rampage. The critical point for today is at 5798. The support for Nifty in case of a slip below the critical point is at 5774 and then at 5740.
However, if Nifty manages to stick its head above the 5798 point, it will make new 52 week highs with immediate resistance at 5860 and 5897.
Our outlook for today is of continued optimism.

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 29 November 2012.

The charts had indeed been predicting bullish move since the last two trading sessions and we had been indicating the same in our earlier posts.
Today is settlement day for November series and so nifty may show some volatility. The tipping point for today is at 5706 and continued trading below this level will see Nifty go down to 5679. The critical support is at 5645 below which all the recent profits might get wiped out.
However, our outlook for today is that it is unlikely to break the support at 5645 and might as well trade with a bullish bias with resistance at 5755 and then at 5781.

The sun rising for Moonrise Kingdom

Is Moonrise Kingdom going to make it big at the Academy Awards 2013!
If one were to go by past statistics then the winners at the last three Gotham Independent Film Awards ie The Tree Of Life, Winter's Bone and The Hurt Locker- all three of these movies were nominated for the best picture category of Oscar Awards in the respective years. Well in that case, here is a lot for Moonrise Kingdom then, because it was a big winner in the 22nd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards last night in the best feature film category beating The Master and The Loneliest Planet.
I think Moonrise Kingdom is one of the best movies this year and will make it big in the 85th Oscar Award to be held on 24 February 2013.
Among other winners were Benh Zeitlin for Best Breakthrough Director for Beasts of the Southern Wild, Your Sister's Sister for Best Ensemble Performance and Emayatzy Corinealdi for Best Breakthrough Actor/Actress for her role in Middle of Nowhere.
Jared Gilman stars as Sam in Wes Anderson's MOONRISE KINGDOM, a Focus Features release.

Monday, November 26, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 27 November 2012.

The Nifty closed yesterday at 5635 which was the critical resistance as stated in our yesterday's post. 5635 also happens to be the tipping point for today and the Nifty will have to trade above this point to be bullish. The immediate resistance is at 5662 and then at 5690.
The charts are indicating a bullish pattern but yesterdays closing was rather inconclusive. In case of trades below 5635, the Nifty will find support at 5624 and 5612. 5584 is the critical support below which the market will see a reversal of the current trend.

Sunday, November 25, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 26 November 2012 to 30 November 2012..

The Nifty is poised for further up move, yet fresh convictions are lacking. Unless it conquers the immediate resistance, which is at 5635, conclusively a few more days of consolidation with sideways movement will be seen. Above 5635 the Nifty will face resistance at 5689.
However, the tipping point for the day is at 5619 below which the immediate supports are at 5610 and 5584.
Our outlook for today is that although the structure of the market will remain the same as it has been for the last few days, yet there might be some volatile ups and/ or downs; this being a triple witching truncated week, with settlement of November series on 29th November 2012. The markets will be closed on 28th November 2012.

Thursday, November 22, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 23 November 2012.

The Nifty is all poised for a short term up move provided it stays above 5627 consistently. Incidentally, 5627 is yesterdays closing point. In the event of an up move, the immediate resistance is at 5644 and then 5690.
If however it fails to stay above 5627, then the immediate support is at 5620 failing which it may go down to 5583.
Our outlook for today is of sideways consolidation unless it manages to stay above 5627.

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 22 November 2012.

The Nifty is exhibiting bullish signs but it will have to conquer the resistance which is placed at 5638 with good volumes. However only above 5690 will fresh longs be made. On the flip side, Nifty will be weak if it slides below 5597, the supports in which case are at 5575. Below 5575, new shorts will be formed.
Our outlook for today is that of consolidation with a bullish bias.

Thursday, November 15, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 16th November 2012.

The Nifty is precariously poised around the tipping point which is at 5628. The immediate support is at 5585. A slip below this with good volumes may see it testing the critical support of 5516.
On the flip side, the immediate resistance is at  5640 and 5662. In order to be bullish the Nifty will have to conquer the critical resistance which is at 5711.
Our outlook for today is that the market may weaken further before an intermediate bottom is made.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 15th November 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5685 below which the market will be weak and may test the support of 5642. Below 5642 it may go down to 5616. However if it manages to stick above the 5675 point with good volumes, then the immediate resistance is at 5705 and 5732.
Our outlook for today is that the market will be weak.

S&P CNX Nifty for 12th November 2012.

The tipping point for the day is at 5706 and the Nifty will be bullish only if the benchmark index will trade above this point. The immediate resistance in such case is at 5716 and 5740.
However, the market may start weak and soft and if it trades below the tipping point for longer period then it may find support at 5675 and then at 5642.
Our outlook for today is of sideways weak market with optimistic bias.

A must watch- English Vinglish

                                               ENGLISH VINGLISH

Gauri Shinde has made a surprisingly brilliant debut movie that one can go and watch with family. The movie revolves around a Marathi housewife who, otherwise smart and elegant, is ridiculed for not being fluent in spoken English. The storyline somehow combines lack of fluency in spoken English with disrespect from teenage kids and husband, when our protagonist, played by Sridevi, takes it upon herself to win back self respect. Shot in New York, the movie has several very fine and touching points and excellent choreography.
We give 8 in our scale of 10.

Weekend music.

It comes as a terrible shock to all the fans of The Civil Wars, myself included, as the duo Joy Williams and John Paul White posted a statement about their 'irreconcilable differences'. Here's a note they posted on their  facebook page.
" We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret. However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013."
They were so much full of chemistry till only recently, but then what goes on in ones personal life is a personal matter altogether. Hope they get over their differences and resolve whatever there is,  but thanks nevertheless for all the grace they so perfectly presented to us. We need much more of the duo together!!! However, enjoy the great songs

Dance me to the end of love.

and

I want you back.

Weekend Verses.

                                         Autumn

The thistledown's flying, though the winds are all still,
On the green grass now lying, now mounting the hill,
The spring from the fountain now boils like a pot;
Through stones past the counting it bubbles red-hot.

The ground parched and cracked is like overbaked bread,
The greensward all wracked is, bents dried up and dead.
The fallow fields glitter like water indeed,
And gossamers twitter, flung from weed unto weed.

Hill-tops like hot iron glitter bright in the sun,
And the rivers we're eying burn to gold as they run;
Burning hot is the ground, liquid gold is the air;
Whoever looks round sees Eternity there.

S&P CNX Nifty for 9 November 2012.

Profit booking did see the Nifty plunge but the bullish structure is intact. The tipping point for today is at 5725 below which the nifty will weaken and may go down to 5673. On the flip side, the immediate resistance to be overcome is at 5745 for any further up move.
Our outlook for today is that the market may see an upside.

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 8 November 2012.

The market did see opening of new longs yesterday as it traded with continued optimism. The tipping point for today is at 5750 below which the immediate support is at 5731. Above 5750 the market will be bullish with immediate resistance at 5768, 5788 and 5815.
Our outlook for today is a soft opening amidst profit booking.

Music I Grew Up With - 12

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 7 November 2012.

The markets yesterday did exhibit that the bullish structure is intact. If the Nifty stays above the 5717 mark today and the resistance which is at 5729 is conclusively conquered then fresh longs will be built in the market which might lead Nifty towards 5815.
However, if it does not trade conclusively above the tipping point then the immediate support is at 5707 and then at 5699.
Our outlook for today is of continued optimism amidst a little slowing down of the momentum, as compared to earlier up surge.

Austerity measures- how effective?

In their recent  article,  Barry Eichengreen and Kevin O’Rourke have pointed out that their own estimates of multiplier of US ( the change in GDP from a $1 change in government spending) based on the data from the 1930s is in the range of 1.6. This has confirmed the estimates of the IMF which had estimated the US multiplier to be in the range 0.9 to 1.7. The IMF, by stating that the multiplier was in fact higher than it was previously supposed, had in effect annoyed a lot of pundits, as a higher multiplier of US implies that the austerity measures of Europe had in fact been a farce and the prime reason behind the continent's recession. The research by Eichengreen and O'Rourke really deserves great praise. Read on.

Monday, November 5, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 6 November 2012.

The tipping point for today is at 5699 above which the Nifty will test the immediate resistance od 5730. Below 5699, the immediate support is at 5690 and then at 5678 and 5630.
Our outlook for today is that the Nifty may show a little more of sideways movement in a consolidating mode without any significant damage.

Sunday, November 4, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 5 November 2012.

Indeed the short covering on Friday saw market shoot up beyond the immediate resistance with a gap up opening. The immediate resistance for today is at 5699 and then at 5729. below 5799 the index will be weak and will consolidate with immediate support at 5679, 5659 and then at 5630.
our outlook for today is that the market will consolidate with bouts of down slides.

Hallucination.

While many people hear voices at various stages of their life, they avoid believing that it is hallucination. Most of the Medical fraternity too takes this as an illness. However, it has been established that hearing voices is not an illness and also that while many schizophrenia patients do hear voices but the inverse is not true. All those who hear voices are not necessarily schizophrenic. Oliver Sacks, a renowned neuro-scientist  has had a long experience with a lot of patients and has thrown brilliant insight in his recent article on Seeing things? Hearing things? Many-of-us-do.  Read on.

Weekend verses

         Love in Autumn

I sought among the drifting leaves,
The golden leaves that once were green,
To see if Love were hiding there
And peeping out between.

For thro' the silver showers of May
And thro' the summer's heavy heat,
In vain I sought his golden head
And light, fast-flying feet.

Perhaps when all the world is bare
And cruel winter holds the land,
The Love that finds no place to hide
Will run and catch my hand.

I shall not care to have him then,
I shall be bitter and a-cold --
It grows too late for frolicking
When all the world is old.

Then little hiding Love, come forth,
Come forth before the autumn goes,
And let us seek thro' ruined paths
The garden's last red rose.

S&P CNX Nifty for 2 November 2012.

For the bullish trend to resume the bench mark index will have to conquer the immediate resistance which is at 5674 above which only fresh longs will be created.
The tipping point for today is at 5631 below which the market will be weak. The immediate supports are however at 5617 and then at 5606.
Our outlook for today is a little bit of short covering. However, the bottom seems to be well in place for now.

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 1 November 2012.

The support of 5584 did hold yesterday. The tipping point for today is at 5609. The immediate resistance is at 5622 and 5655.
On the flip side the immediate support is at 5612, 5605 and then at 5596. However, below 5584, the only support is at 5516.
Our outlook for today is of further weakness without further damage to the current trend of consolidation with a bullish bias.

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 31 October 2012.

As can be seen from our last posts, the market was looking weak for the last few days and so as if responding to the chart signals, it did come down crashing yesterday. The breach of 5630 levels did bring the benchmark index to as low as 5589.9, which was a shade above the crucial support of 5584.
The tipping point for today's trades is at 5628 and unless the market trades above 5628 conclusively, there are no hopes for the bulls. In case of an upsurge/ bounce back, the immediate resistance is at 5632 and then at 5644.
In case the support of 5584 does not hold conclusively, then the immediate support is at 5516 below which the current bullish trend will reverse.
Our outlook for today is weak consolidation if the 5516 level is not breached.

Baking soda uses.

Do you know that baking soda can be used in the following ways

S&P CNX Nifty for 30 October 2012.

As predicted in our post yesterday, in spite of an opening above Friday's closing, the market did turn weak but the support of 5646 did hold.
The tipping point for today is at 5669 below which the market will continue to be weak. The immediate support is at 5652 below which, 5630 continues to be a major support. A breach of 5630 support will see the index retrace all the way down south to 5584.
If the market trades above 5669 conclusively with good volumes then 5678 is the immediate resistance above which it may find resistance at 5699. Beyond 5699 it will be bullish.
The outlook for today is a weak consolidating lackluster market with a bullish bias.

Sunday, October 28, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 29 October 2012.

The tipping point for today is at 5667 which is a shade above the closing point of Friday. The charts indicate somewhat weakness in the immediate term with immediate support at 5658, 5652 and 5646. Below 5646 the crucial support of 5630 may be tested.
On the flip side the immediate resistance is at 5672 and 5690. It will be bullish only above the 5690 mark.

S&P CNX Nifty for the week 29 October 2012 to 2 November 2012.

5675 is the deciding point for the whole week, with 5630 as the crucial support. If 5630 gets broken then Nifty may test the 5584 level below which the trend may change if it trades conclusively below 5584. Otherwise the week will pass off in yet another phase of consolidation with a bullish bias with 5736 and 5755 as resistance.

Moonrise Kingdom 2012 review.

Moonrise kingdom is by far the best movie from the writer/director Wes Anderson. Set in the year 1965, it is the story of two twelve year old kids who fall in love and run away into the wilderness in the picturesque and untouched island off the coast of New England. A storm is brewing as the search team comprising the local sheriff played by Bruce Willis and the Khaki scout leader played by Edward Norton set out on a hunt. Among others are Bill Murray and Frances McDormand playing as the girls parents. The movie has been made in a very very warm and immaculate way.
In a rating of 9.5 in a scale of 10, this is a must watch.

Weekend Verses.

Why Don't You Come

See the swallows quit the eaves
And fall the yellow walnut leaves,
The vines with autumn frost are numb,
Why don't you come, why don't you come?

Oh, come into my arms' embrace
That I may gaze upon your face,
And lay my head in grateful rest
Against your breast, against your breast!

Do you remember when we strayed
The meadows and the secret glade,
I kissed you midst flowering thyme
How many a time, how many a time?

Some women on the earth there are
Whose eyes shine as the evening star,
But be their charm no matter what,
Like you they're not, like you they're not!

For you shine in my soul always
More softly than the starlight blaze,
More splendid than the risen sun,
Beloved one, beloved one!

But it is late in autumn now,
The leaves have fallen from the bough,
The fields are bare, the birds are dumb.
Why don't you come, why don't you come?

S&P CNX Nifty for 26 October 2012.

Our predicted support at 5685 did hold on the day of settlement yet the market could not surmount the predicted resistance of 5706 on closing basis as it closed a shade below at 5705.3.
The charts however indicate a little bit of a drop in the index today due to unwinding of some longs before the Nifty resumes its upward journey.
5698 is the immediate support below the tipping point which happens to be at 5704. Below 5698, the supports continue to be at 5665 and 5630.
On the flip side, if it trades above 5706 in the opening hours with good volumes and for longer time then the immediate resistance is at 5747 and 5762.

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 25 October 2012.

As predicted in our last post, the Nifty did find support a shade above 5680. The tipping point continues to be 5697 with immediate support at 5685. Below 5685, it might retrace aal the way till 5665, 5630 continues to be the crucial point.
On the flip side, if it trades above 5697 with good volumes then 5706 will act as the immediate resistance above which 5747 and 5762 will act as intra-day resistances in case of a range bound trading pattern.
Today is the last day of settlement of futures and options of the October series and as per the charts, the series seems to expire without any further significant gain or loss. However, sudden turbulence can not be ruled out and may be employed to hedge future positions for the November series, which will be pretty long as compared to the current series.

Reading skills and white matter correlated.

As per a  recent article published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers have reported a correlation between white matter development in children aged 7-12 and their performance on standardized reading assessments i.e. reading skills.
This can be good news for the educators if this study can shed light on when to start reading interventions, or which cognitive processes the reading interventions should target. But like it happens mostly, such findings result in misinterpretations and get lost or become detrimental. Read more here
In case if the reader does not already know, white matter is one of the two components of the central nervous system  and consists mostly of Glial cells and Myelinated axons. The main effect of white matter is to transmit signals from one region of the Cerebrum to another and between the cerebrum and lower brain centers. In simple words, it is believed that the white matter connects different information, which is contained in grey matter and so the more the white matter the smarter the person. The Grey matter which comprises Neuron is another major component and is believed to store information.

S&P CNX Nifty for 23 October 2012

The Nifty did show an upsurge yesterday. The tipping point for today is at 5697 below which nifty will be weak with the immediate support at 5680 and then 5665. The crucial support continues to be at 5630.
On the flip side if it trades above 5697, it will surge up north with immediate resistance at 5747 and 5762. The charts are indicating bullishness but settlement being so close, one should be prepared for turbulence.

And the award goes to..

Hillary Mantel has done it yet again. Following in the close heals of her earlier book, Wolf Hall, which won the award for 2009, this year her book, Bring up the bodies, which is second part of her trilogy on the life and way of Thomas Cromwell, made her win the Man Booker Award for 2012 for a second time. Thomas Cromwell, the chief minister of the Tudor court of Henry VIII, who has severally been portrayed as a ruthless, cruel and negative character in all the earlier fiction, is the central character in both her books. But Hillary Mantel takes a fresh look in both the books from the view point of Cromwell without any prejudice of his much touted violent portrayal.
For the lovers of fiction, both her books are essentially must reads.

S&P CNX Nifty for the week 22 October 2012 to 26 October 2012.

The Nifty closed a shade below the tipping point on Friday the 19th October, the crucial point is at 5686. Above 5686 the immediate resistance is at 5699, 5736 and 5755. On the flip side below 5686 mark the immediate support is at 5665. The crucial support continues to be at 5630 mark below which it may slip to
5584. The recent consolidation trend will change only if either Nifty dips below 5584 or jumps above 5755. This being a truncated week, as 24 October 2012 is a holiday on account of Dushehra, and also 25 October 2012 is the expiry day of the October series, one may expect choppy trades in either direction. Over all, our out look continues to be of bullish consolidation as long as it stands above 5584 mark and so any dip may be utilized to take positions for the November series.

Weekend Verses

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and its tune is heard
on the distant hill

for the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Swerve by Stephen Greenblatt

The book is an excellent masterpiece where Stephan Greenblatt takes the reader to the fifteenth century Europe. It is a vivid description, so lucid in style, of the times and circumstances of papacy and Poggio Bracciolini, the personal secretary of the pope, leading to accidental discovery of the ancient book- De rerum natura- (On the nature of things) the poem written by Lucretius, which was lost for more than a thousand years. Centering around the life and times of Poggio, the book spans across centuries from the Epicurean masters to the renaissance. The emotional need to preserve the beauty of Latin prose and its hexameters by numerous scholars of medieval world, the poem however in conflict with the christian theology of the times, brought about a change in orthodoxy, paving way for The Renaissance.
This is a compelling, exciting and informative book- a must read.

S&P CNX Nifty for the week 15 October 2012 to 19 October 2012.

The Nifty is showing lack of conviction at higher levels, signalling continued consolidation. The critical mark is at 5685 for the next week and the Nifty will remain weak below this levels. If it slips below the support of 5630, then it may find support at 5584. The recent trend of consolidation with bullish bias will change only if it trades below the support of 5584 on closing or continued basis.
On the flip side, if Nifty trades above 5685, then the immediate resistance is at 5708, 5736 and then at 5755. It will be bullish only if it trades above 5755 conclusively.

Weekend Verses.

          Longing

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Come, as thou cam'st a thousand times,
A messenger from radiant climes,
And smile on thy new world, and be
As kind to others as to me!

Or, as thou never cam'st in sooth,
Come now, and let me dream it truth,
And part my hair, and kiss my brow,
And say, My love why sufferest thou?

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

S&P CNX Nifty for 12 October 2012.

As envisaged in our post yesterday, the Nifty didn't see any further weakness and bounced from 5636, a mere 6 points above our crucial support of 5630. The resistance of 5721 held the market. The outlook for today is continued consolidation with bullish bias. If it slips below 5689, it might test the support of 5668. If it holds the 5668 support then it might bounce back with immediate resistance at 5728 and then 5749.Otherwise all the profits of yesterday will be wiped out.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 11 October 2012.

Nifty will continue to be weak as long as it trades below 5662. 5630 is the crucial support below which the Nifty will reverse its current trend and may go into a bearish mode in the current series. However chances of further weakness are remote. On the flip side, the immediate resistance is 5687, 5721 and then at 5755. The outlook for the day is of consolidation.

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 10 October 2012.

The tipping point for today is 5702. Below 5702 the support is at 5640 where there will be trend reversal. However the outlook for tomorrow is continued consolidation with bullish bias with resistance at 5724, 5742 and 5760.

Monday, October 8, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 9 October 2012

As envisaged in our outlook for 8 October 2012, supply did emerge which dragged Nifty down to 5666.2. The outlook for nifty for 9 October 2012 is of continued supply dragging it further down if it trades bellow 5698 consistently with good volumes, the support is at 5640 below which the trend will reverse and there may be a sudden dip as the stop loss are placed at below 5640 with support at 5573 and 5515.
On the flip side the resistance is at 57555 if it trades above the 5698 mark with good volumes.

Sunday, October 7, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 8 October 2012.

If the Nifty trades above the 5759 mark then only will it be bullish with immediate resistance at 5775. However, below the 5759 mark it will be soft with supports at 5734 and 5720.
The outlook for Monday, however, is of continued supply unless it trades above 5759 mark in the initial hours and trades.

To QE or not to QE.

The Central Banks can beat a slump through effective employment of the quantitative theory of money, through quantitative easing with much vigor- by continued purchase of assets from non-banking institutions.
However, that is not what the Fed is doing. Ben Bernanke is actually trying to manipulate the interest rates and this policy is not going to be of any value as the low cost of credit for borrowers is offset by reduced income of creditors (interest).

Saturday, October 6, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 8 October 2012 to 12 October 2012.

If the freak trade of Friday and the consequent shutting down of Nifty is ignored, the Nifty did bounce from 5706.1 which was three points above our predicted support. For the Nifty to continue making new highs, it must trade consistently above 5748 mark. The support is at 5708 and then at 5640. The trend will reverse only if it dips below the 5640 mark.
The outlook for the next week continues to be consolidation with a bullish bias. The resistance is at 5808, 5869 and 5930.

Weekend Verses.

                A Dream

Love, if I weep it will not matter,
   And if you laugh I shall not care;
Foolish am I to think about it,
But it is good to feel you there.

Love, in my sleep I dreamed of waking,—
White and awful the moonlight reached
Over the floor, and somewhere, somewhere,
There was a shutter loose,—it screeched!

Swung in the wind,—and no wind blowing!—
I was afraid, and turned to you,
Put out my hand to you for comfort,—
And you were gone! Cold, cold as dew,

Under my hand the moonlight lay!
Love, if you laugh I shall not care,
But if I weep it will not matter,—
Ah, it is good to feel you there!

S&P CNX Nifty for 5 October 2012

The Nifty was bullish as predicted yesterday. The tipping point for today is at 5780 above which Nifty will be bullish with immediate resistance at 5798, 5838 and then 5865.
On the flip side, in case the nifty trades below the 5780 mark for longer period with good volumes, the support is at 5765, 5745 and 5703 but the sentiment will be of consolidation with bullish bias. The sentiment will change only if it dips below 5703 which seems less likely at this stage. All the technical indicators are in bullish pattern.

The text of Daniel Kahneman's recent e mail.

From: Daniel Kahneman Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2012 9:32 AM Subject: A proposal to deal with questions about priming effects
Dear colleagues,
I write this letter to a collection of people who were described to me (mostly by John Bargh) as students of social priming. There were names on the list that I could not match to an email. Please pass it on to anyone else you think might be relevant.
As all of you know, of course, questions have been raised about the robustness of priming results. The storm of doubts is fed by several sources, including the recent exposure of fraudulent researchers, general concerns with replicability that affect many disciplines, multiple reported failures to replicate salient results in the priming literature, and the growing belief in the existence of a pervasive file drawer problem that undermines two methodological pillars of your field: the preference for conceptual over literal replication and the use of meta-analysis. Objective observers will point out that the problem could well be more severe in your field than in other branches of experimental psychology, because every priming study involves the invention of a new experimental situation.
For all these reasons, right or wrong, your field is now the poster child for doubts about the integrity of psychological research. Your problem is not with the few people who have actively challenged the validity of some priming results. It is with the much larger population of colleagues who in the past accepted your surprising results as facts when they were published. These people have now attached a question mark to the field, and it is your responsibility to remove it.
I am not a member of your community, and all I have personally at stake is that I recently wrote a book that emphasizes priming research as a new approach to the study of associative memory – the core of what dual-system theorists call System 1. Count me as a general believer. I also believe in a point that John Bargh made in his response to Cleeremans, that priming effects are subtle and that their design requires high-level skills. I am skeptical about replications by investigators new to priming research, who may not be attuned to the subtlety of the conditions under which priming effects are observed, or to the ease with which these effects can be undermined.
My reason for writing this letter is that I see a train wreck looming. I expect the first victims to be young people on the job market. Being associated with a controversial and suspicious field will put them at a severe disadvantage in the competition for positions. Because of the high visibility of the issue, you may already expect the coming crop of graduates to encounter problems. Another reason for writing is that I am old enough to remember two fields that went into a prolonged eclipse after similar outsider attacks on the replicability of findings: subliminal perception and dissonance reduction.
I believe that you should collectively do something about this mess. To deal effectively with the doubts you should acknowledge their existence and confront them straight on, because a posture of defiant denial is self-defeating. Specifically, I believe that you should have an association, with a board that might include prominent social psychologists from other field. The first mission of the board would be to organize an effort to examine the replicability of priming results, following a protocol that avoids the questions that have been raised and guarantees credibility among colleagues outside the field.
The following is just an example of such a protocol:
 Assemble a group of five labs, where the leading investigators have an established reputation (tenure should perhaps be a requirement). Substantial labs with several students are the most desirable participants.
 Each lab selects a recent demonstration of a priming effect, which they consider robust and most likely to replicate.
 The board makes a public commitment to these five specific effects
 Set up a daisy chain of labs A-B-C-D-E-A, where each lab will replicate the study selected by its
neighbor: B replicates A, C replicates B etc.
 Have the replicating lab send someone to see how subjects are run (hence the emphasis on recency –
the experiments should be in the active repertoire of the original lab, so that additional subjects can
be run with confidence that the same procedure is followed).
 Have the replicated lab send someone to vet the procedure of the replicating lab as it starts its work
 Run enough subjects to guarantee power (probably more than in the original study)
 Use technology (e.g. video) to ensure that every detail of the method is documented and can be
copied by others.
 Pre-commit to publish the results, letting the chips fall where they may, and make all data available
for analysis by others.
This is something you could do quickly, and relatively cheaply. The main costs are 10 trips, and funds to cover
these costs would be easy to get (I have checked). You would have to be careful in selecting laboratories and
results to maximize credibility, and every step of the procedure should be open and documented. The
unusually high openness to scrutiny may be annoying and even offensive, but it is a small price to pay for the
big prize of restored credibility.
Success (say, replication of four of the five positive priming results) would immediately rehabilitate the field.
Importantly, success would also provide an effective challenge to the adequacy of outsiders’ replications. A
publicly announced and open effort would be credible among colleagues at large, because it would show that
you are sufficiently confident in your results to take a risk.
More ambiguous results would be painful, of course, but they would still protect the reputations of scholars
who sincerely believe in their work – even if they are sometimes wrong.
The protocol I outlined is just an example of something you might do. The main point of my letter is that you
should do something, and that you must do it collectively. No single individual will be able to overcome the
doubts, but if you act as a group and avoid defensiveness you will be credible.
All best,

S&P CNX Nifty for 4 October 2012

For the bullish trend to continue the Nifty will have to stay consistently above the 5733 mark below which it might retrace its path to 5675. The technical charts are indicating continued bullishness though, with immediate resistance at 5744 and then at 5758 and 5774.

USD- INR ahead.

The dollar has weakened against rupee and will continue to weaken further if it trades below 52.21, below which the support is at 51.90 and then 50.65. The immediate resistance is at 52.47 and 52.57.  The recent weak trend of dollar will reverse only above 52.73. In the immediate term, a trend reversal does not seem likely and based on the technical charts, it seems more likely that the dollar may weaken further with trades mostly on short side.

S&P CNX Nifty for 3 October 2012

The market will continue to be strong as long as it trades above the 5712 mark, in which case the resistance is at 5661. However below 5712, the immediate support is at 5675.

September 2012- A Historical Month?

Going by the available data, the US economy still seems to be hardly tattering on its way towards recovery. With employment stuck above 8% and the growth sinking deep below 2%, the only spot where any activity was witnessed recently was in the Wall Street.
The great moment in modern monetary history, the greatest since the Wall Street blues of September 2008 was created during September 2012. On 13th September, Ben Bernanke promised to buy as much bonds as necessary without limit, till the US approaches the level of full employment. A week later, Angela Markel affirms her support to the European Central Bank to purchase as much of sovereign debt as necessary to prevent the fears of a Euro-union break up. Bank of Japan too extended its asset purchasing programme. All the three Central Banks have, in other words, consented to printing currency without limits this time.
Similar quantitative easing has been conducted by the US Fed in the past, but not much has come out of it.
Throwing inflation targets to wind, putting lots of money with the banks, only time will tell whether it will boost the economies like it did in the pre-1970 era.
But one thing which is clearly visible is the increase in stock and bond prices. Is the new printed money being re-distributed in the hands of the Wall Street participants! Is the new money parked with banks responsible for inflating the asset prices or is it really moving the economies out of the shambles they have been in of late! Or will it indeed help in reducing the long term mortgage rates.
I doubt.

S&P CNX Nifty for the week 1 October 2012 to 6 October 2012.

The Nifty displayed bullishness on the back of short covering. If it continues to trade above the 5675 mark, it will continue to consolidate with bullish bias. For any new highs, it will have to trade consistently above the 5708 mark in the opening trades next week with immediate resistance being at 5752 and 5785. However, on account of truncated week (holiday on 2 October), volumes can drop on Monday resulting in choppy trades. Below 5675, the supports are at 5652 and 5611.

The Weekend Verses.

                                       YOU

Uninvited, the thought of you stayed too late in my head,
so I went to bed, dreaming you hard, hard, woke with your name,
like tears, soft, salt, on my lips, the sound of its bright syllables
like a charm, like a spell.
Falling in love
is glamorous hell; the crouched, parched heart
like a tiger ready to kill; a flame's fierce licks under the skin.
Into my life, larger than life, beautiful, you strolled in.
I hid in my ordinary days, in the long grass of routine,
in my camouflage rooms. You sprawled in my gaze,
staring back from anyone's face, from the shape of a cloud,
from pining, earth- struck moon which gapes at me
as I open the bedroom door. The curtains stir.

There you are on the bed, like a gift, like a touchable dream.

The settlement day may see support at 5649, below which, it will be weak and drift lower towards 5628 and 5604. However above 5691, a fresh buying may emerge.

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for 26 September 2012.

As predicted yesterday, the Nifty did bounce back from the support of 5652.  For further gains the market must trade consistently above the 5677 mark, immediate resistance being at 5694. However, below the support of 5660, it will find support at 5628 and then 5604. The outlook is consolidation with bullish bias in the face of choppy trades due to the looming expiry of F&O series for September tomorrow.

However, below 5681 mark, it will continue to be weak and with supports around 5652 and below it at 5604, the market may consolidate for a while. For it to be bullish, it will have to trade above 5681 consistently, above which the resistance is at 5699.

Sunday, September 23, 2012

S&P CNX Nifty for the week 24 September 2012 to 28 September 2012.

The technical charts indicate that if Nifty holds above the 5645 mark, it will continue to be bullish with strong upsurges with immediate resistance at 5699.  However, the support of Nifty is at 5675 below which it can slide down to 5604.  If it finds support at 5604 then it will trade with a bullish bias. Otherwise, the outlook for the market is continued bullish sentiment without any major sentiment as it moves into a new range with lower bounds at around 5450.

Weekend Verses.

Who Ever Loved That Loved Not at First Sight?

It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate.
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin,
We wish that one should love, the other win;

And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect:
The reason no man knows; let it suffice
What we behold is censured by our eyes.
Where both deliberate, the love is slight:
Who ever loved, that loved not at first sight?

Weekend Verses.

                                          Echo

I think I was searching for treasures or stones
in the clearest of pools
when your face ...

when your face,
like the moon in a well
where I might wish ...

might well wish
for the iced fire of your kiss;
only on water my lips, where your face ...

where your face was reflected, lovely,
not really there when I turned
to look behind at the emptying air ...

the emptying air.
